Gouden Pet

The basic concept rests on a number of principles that are described hereunder.

The competition's preliminary round:
The preliminary round, start at 12:00; the final will be carried out on the same day. On various street corners there will be a musician playing, changing every half an hour. Each street-musician has 3 opportunities of half an hour each to prove himself to an expert jury.

Judging the preliminary round:
The six finalists will be chosen in the preliminary round by an expert, independent jury made up of various jury members. The jury members are people from the music world or have an affinity with music. They judge the performances based on strict pre drawn up criteria.

Finale:
The festival ends at the end of midday, at 16:30, with a stunning finale by the 6 finalists. They will perform on a podium at the Hooglandsekerk Square, so that the entire public can have a good look at the acts. The participants will be playing loudly, so that all can hear the music. The public will vote for a winner by ballot.

Location:
From 2008 onward the festival has taken place in the neighbourhood of the Hooglandse Church. The podium at the Hooglandsekerk Square is the focal point for the finale. The preliminaries take place at different locations between (and next to) the Castle, on the Stille and Nieuwe Rijn in the neighbourhood of the Hooglandse Church. Clustering the acts enables the public to view many acts in a short span of time, and this all in an attractive and original area of Leiden.
